Course Introduction
introduction
Have you ever found yourself in a detour? You know, when you are driving towards a particular destination and then you see those orange signs on the road that say “detour”. What’s your initial reaction? Mine is, “I don’t have time for this!” Inevitably this detour will cost you time and may even cause distress because you are forced into a new path that is totally unfamiliar for you. Can someone say, “Trust Issues?!”
However, at times, we find divine moments of detours in our lives that have actually intentionally been given to us by God. When we face these detours our temptation may be to question God and even His goodness. Our minds may race and we go from seeing this as a simple detour, to a delay, which makes us think it’s a denial which ultimately may leave us feeling dejected.
But, God’s detours are not delays or denials. They are divinely appointed moments of discipleship. Spurgeon reminds us that God in His infinite nature could change the trajectory of the sun and make it rise in the west. He can also turn the things that cause us great distress (like detours) and turn them into channels of delight.
In this four video session we walk through this journey in detail. Each video is 5-8 minutes longs and comes accompanied with reflection questions. Each session also has a suggested Scripture to memorize. We want God's word not only accessible to us, but within us. Memorizing Scripture is an incredible and vital aspect of our spiritual formation that is often and easily overlooked.
Throughout this course we will explore God’s sovereignty in the midst of our detours. We will learn to reframe our reaction from a perspective of “rejection” to a perspective of “trust” in God’s purpose for our lives.
P.S - This course was designed with families and students in mind. This would be a great option for family devotions or as a resource for your children!
